a space to connect with your inner light

My path to becoming a therapist wasn’t straightforward. I was a Special Education Teacher and spent 6 years teaching abroad in Hong Kong and Vietnam. While I loved working with kids, I knew in my heart that teaching wasn’t my true calling. Eventually, I took the leap to follow my lifelong dream of becoming a therapist and it’s been the most fulfilling decision I’ve ever made.

It feels like such a privilege to create space and build genuine relationships with my clients. I know how hard it can be to sit on the therapy couch and share vulnerably with another human. I have been a therapy client myself for years (and still am!). So, my goal is to make therapy a “comfortably uncomfortable” experience—pushing for growth while always offering  warmth, support, compassion, and sometimes a bit of humour.

I also want you to know what qualifies me to do this work. I hold a Master’s in Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto, and as a Registered Psychotherapist, I’m committed to ongoing clinical supervision with a seasoned therapist to ensure that you receive the highest quality care.

One of the most important things to know about me is that I am a 'highly sensitive person'. This means that I experience life with deep feeling and awareness. I used to think these traits isolated me from others, but what I have learned is that being highly sensitive allows me to connect with others in a genuine, compassionate way.

When I’m not in the therapy room, I like to spend my time doing things I love including going to spin classes, watching reality tv, obsessing over every dog I see, reading (my favourite genres are memoirs and psychological thrillers!), and going on walks in the ravine with my amazing dog, Penny.

Hi, I'm Kailey Citron.
Welcome to Ember Therapy on the Danforth!

ABOUT ME

My Approach

I specialize in working with women who feel disconnected from their true selves—whether that shows up as people-pleasing, perfectionism, a relentless inner critic, or feeling unfulfilled in relationships. My approach goes beyond quick fixes; it’s about getting to the root of your emotions and helping you face the discomfort of actually feeling them, because that’s where real growth happens.

If you’re struggling with certain patterns or beliefs, it can help to reflect on your upbringing and how your emotional needs were met (or not met). Many of us didn’t learn how to fully process our emotions, which can lead to avoiding uncomfortable emotions, feelings of unworthiness or a sense that our needs don't matter, prioritizing others' needs before our own, and so much more.

But here's the good news: recognizing these patterns is the first step toward healing. As you begin to reconnect with your true Self, you will find healthier and more authentic ways of relating to yourself and others. It is never too late to start living in alignment of your needs and values. In fact, I think life is too short not to do so!

Fit is so important in therapy. Let’s connect for 15 minutes, to get a feel for what it would be like to work together. I love meeting new people and would love to hear from you!
